But Shayna’s pregnancy complicated that. If her baby was a son, that child would be the male heir of King Templeton, so there was intense interest in the gender of her baby. As Princess Shayna entered the 8th month of her pregnancy, her father passed away, but because the birth of her baby was so imminent, the high court of Punim declared that none of the Prince Carltons could yet claim the throne. They would have to wait until the baby was born.
 
Over the next week, each of the princes paid a visit to King Floyd, each promising strong relations between their kingdoms if he was told the gender of the baby first, each promising to work against Plotz if another prince found out before he did.
