Hour of Code 2016

Besides being a technical evangelist, foodie, and dad, I am also a “CoderDojo Champion.” I founded and organize Seattle CoderDojo, which is a chapter of the international CoderDojo movement (a movement to establish free computer programming clubs for kids around the world).

On Saturday we had our fourth annual Hour of Code event with Amazon.com. They’ve been amazingly generous and gracious sponsors of our chapter since I was back at Microsoft. I always thought it was a demonstration of tech community cooperation that a Microsoft guy was running a community event hosted at Amazon, with volunteers from both of the aforementioned companies, plus T-Mobile, Ticketmaster, and a host of others.

So this weekend we went from this…

… to this…

… and back again in three hours. We gave away 5 robots, toys and games, and helped 243 kids get an hour of computer science education.
